Let's talk about sex

As part of a lead up to the LGBT History Month which starts on the 1st of February 2018, the LBGT Foundation launched a project in November 2017 called ‘Let’s Talk about Sex’. This Heritage Lottery funded project aims to celebrate and commemorate over thirty years of safer sex promotion in Greater Manchester’s LGBTQ+ communities, from the initial response in the wake of the AIDS Crisis in the 1980s through to the present day.

Fusing art, history and stories of personal lived experiences the exhibition will connect throughout Greater Manchester with these important stories of campaigning and activism around sexual health. The project has been led by researcher and curator, Mike Upton, who has worked with local LGBTQ+ communities to produce a striking audio-visual project that will showcase the rich histories of campaigns and initiatives that made Manchester a front-runner in the national response to HIV/AIDS.

Result CIC director, Hormoz was approached to see whether he would take part in one of the interviews to talk about his personal memories from the early years until now.

‘It was a moving and rewarding experience’ says Hormoz. ‘I was reminded of quite a bit of personal loss of too many friends who died and also of the strong sense of support that communities gave to each other at this time of crisis.’

The interview went on to talking about the 1-1 coaching projects that Result CIC has been involved in. Initially through the work of Andy Hilton’s Result Coaching with the Elton John Foundation, then as Result CIC through Manchester City Partnership, and most recently with the George House Trust’s Being+ project.

The launch of the project will be on the 1st of February 2018 between 6-8pm in the Performance Space of Manchester Central Library. The event will feature speakers, poetry from Adam Lowe, a screening of a specially commissioned short film, as well as an exclusive preview of the exhibition accompanying the project.

Anyone can attend but you need to book your place via this link beforehand.
