Moss Side Girls coaching - leaders of the future

RECLAIM_blog_main

RECLAIM is a charity working with 12-15 year old working class young people to be ‘positively seen, authentically heard and can lead meaningful social change. They also provide further support through an ‘Alumni Network’ until they are 22. Furthermore, they develop and deliver a range of pilot projects and campaigns affecting working class communities.

The idea of 1-1 coaching for young people is a fairly new one. However following a case being put forward to the Clothworkers’ Foundation, a grant which included this coaching was awarded a couple of years ago for a 3 year period.

Jane and Hormoz found the experience of the first two years highly rewarding, energising and enriching. The response and resolve of the young people has been wonderful to observe.

The third group of young people, this time a group of girls from Moss Side, started their coaching programme last month. A total of 14 young girls attended an introductory workshop and the 1-1 coaching is now well underway. They will receive a total of 6 sessions followed by a final workshop day which will bring the group back together, partly to share experiences and also to provide further development tools.

Watch this space for a report on how they all did when they finish in July.
