Shining Lights

Still from video introducing Hormoz as keynote speaker

Hormoz on the remarkable achievements of migrants and refugees given a space to shine.

Following a whirlwind period for Result CIC that started in December 2020, April provided a space for reflection. With a successful migrants and refugees programme behind us and through taking part in a fantastic showcase opportunity, we’ve been reminded of the power and resilience of migrants and refugees in the UK.

March saw the end of our programme funded by the Lottery Community Fund ‘Resilience beyond Crisis’. We have mentioned this programme before, and now we want to tell you about how it went.

We are so proud of what the participants achieved that we simply want to shout about it!

For the programme participants, it is was an important celebration of self-discovery, encouraging them to value their strengths and attributes, becoming more assertive and considering the big potential of their networks.

One of the advantages of working on-line is that people participated from all around the country. Check out the range of organisations they came from, to get a measure of the talent which was brought together:

Help Refugees-Choose Love, Refugee Women, MOVE, May Project Gardens, Culture Bridge, New Routes, Freedom from Torture, Europia.

We also had a high achieving and talented student and an asylum seeker, both making waves as activists seeking to gain equity and rights for themselves and others in similar situations.

This was a remarkable group who created a fantastic positive atmosphere for the programme. We made a film with contributions from some of them and we would like you to share it far and wide so that the light can shine on them.

Another reminder of the ingenuity of migrants and refugees was an event in the form of an on-line fair organised by TERN and Social Enterprise UK (SEUK) called CHANGEMAKERS. Prior to the event, I wrote about being asked to be a keynote speaker which was a real honour for me. During the event it dawned on me that I was in very esteemed company with the CEO of SEUK, Peter Holbrook and Niels Tigges from Ben & Jerry’s. Peter and Fred Kastner from TERN were most complimentary about me and Result CIC’s work, as well as my Keynote, which you can see below.

As mentioned, the stars of the show were the entrepreneurs. They were there to present their ideas and ask for possible help, depending on what their needs were. There were 5 themes and 14 pitch videos.

Have a look at the TERN website to see all the innovative and creative ideas that were presented.

Presenting at an event like this also allows us to promote what we do to a much wider audience. It was so good to hear from other social entrepreneurs who wanted to explore possibilities of collaboration with us.
