Result’s Co-Director, Jane, explains why she is going to run 10k with lipspeaker, Laura Bradbury, to raise funds for Guide Dogs for the Blind. Could you support them?
In June I wrote a blog about deafblindness and the lack of communication support available. You have probably heard of guide dogs, but you may not have heard of dual purpose dogs. These are exceptionally talented dogs who can work indoors as a hearing dog – alerting their owner to a range of important sounds, such as doorbells and alarms, and outdoors they work as a guide dog.

I have had the privilege of working with Eric Griffiths, a local deafblind leader in Salford who has had dual purpose dogs and who is now a lead fundraiser for Guide Dogs. I decided I wanted to take on a challenge to raise some funds for Guide Dogs. Luckily one of my superb team of professional lipspeakers, Laura Bradbury, was also up for a challenge. She and I have signed up for the Bury 10k race on 7 September and have started wearing down the soles of our running shoes training (well jogging, in my case)!
We would love to reach our target of £1,000 if we can. This could buy:
- A complete birthing kit so a volunteer can help a guide dog Mum safely deliver her puppies. (£885)
or:
- 7 starter kits for a new guide dog partnership
or:
or:
- 34 hours of specialist training for a guide dog.

We are what we do and we love what we do.
