We’re very happy to have been asked to contribute ideas towards this year’s Manchester Histories Festival taking place in September with a focus on disability.
You can contribute too.
Manchester Histories is a charity that delivers projects, events and activities with communities that reveal, share and celebrate Greater Manchester's diverse histories and heritage. They also host Manchester Histories Festival.
This year, Manchester Histories celebrates the 50th anniversary of Alf’s Act with DigiFest, an online series of events, discussions and contributions.
Better known as the Chronically Sick and Disabled Person’s Act of 1970, this landmark legislation was pioneered by the late Lord Alf Morris who subsequently became Britain’s first minister for disabled people. It was the first disability rights legislation anywhere in the world. Alf Morris was the MP for Wythenshawe between 1964-1997 and his family, including his daughter Gill Morris, are supporting the festival.
If you’d like to contribute towards the programme, you can submit ideas, existing projects and content, responses to the impact of Covid 19 on disabled people… There are many opportunities to take part.
We’re really excited about this opportunity for the voices and experiences of disabled people to be acknowledged, shared and celebrated.
DigiFest is happening on Fri 4 and Sat 5 September 2020 and the deadline for submitting your contributions is Mon 6 July.
