As the autumn colours start to glow and we turn up our collars in the colder weather, Jane reports on Result’s work since our last update in August 2026.
Celebrating DELTA success
Saif and I thoroughly enjoyed designing and co-facilitating this year’s DELTA graduation event on 20 October. The new graduates celebrated their success and progress, listened to and engaged with two excellent guest speakers, set themselves a future challenge and reminded themselves of the power of the network of which they are part and how they can use it positively.
A Civil Service senior disability champion spoke with honesty, compassion and humour about navigating an acquired disability in a senior leadership role. A DELTA graduate spoke about the profound impact of the programme on them, and how they have used what they learned to carve out the right career path for them – allowing them to enjoy and make the most of all the experience and learning opportunities gained.
At the end of the session, we were delighted to read one participant’s feedback on the programme: ‘Well done to the Result CIC team. You've delivered a safe environment and excellent curriculum.’
Listening and learning
Our associate, Dr Ronie Walters and I have been meeting members of Liverpool John Moores University’s Disability and Neurodiversity Staff Network. The University wishes to incorporate disabled staff’s ideas and recommendations into some new training for managers in 2027. We will also be meeting HR Business Partners for their viewpoint.
There will be two training sessions - one about reasonable adjustments and the other about confident communication. While we are still at an early stage of discussion and learning, it is clear that both topics will be crucial for managers to be able to do their job well when working with and supporting disabled colleagues.
Local organisations
Earlier in the year, disabled people’s organisation (DPO), Breakthrough UK, asked us to provide personal and professional development coaching for a mix of their staff and service users. This is an ongoing, flexible project that has already received great feedback.
We are also having active conversations with two superb local charities which support people experiencing multiple exclusion due to their life experience. We are looking forward to providing the most appropriate support to the teams at the charities.
Adding social value
During the quieter period from August, we started to assemble data for our next Social Impact report. It is always interesting to see how things have developed, in this case over 3 years from 2023. We also had the pleasure of meeting a private sector company which is bidding for contracts in the public sector. Did you know that the Procurement Act 2023 now requires companies to demonstrate social value of up to 20% of the bid? This is a great way to encourage private and third sector organisations to work together to boost the value of any contract.
