On Thursday 28 September it's National Poetry Day in the UK. This year's theme is Freedom.
National Poetry Day is an annual celebration that inspires people throughout the UK to enjoy, discover and share poems. Everyone is invited to join in, whether by organising events, displays, competitions or by simply posting favourite lines of poetry on social media using #nationalpoetryday.
Keeping a journal or writing down something positive can be a valuable way of keeping yourself on track during difficult times, and the abstraction of poetry can be the idea form when thoughts and ideas become more difficult to articulate.
Result CIC's Jane Cordell once turned to just such a poem which helped to free her from a situation which was proving to be extremely difficult, supporting her to get through one of the hardest periods of her life, something which she talked about on BBC Radio 4's Peter White show back in 2011.

With the theme of National Poetry Day in mind, we'd love to hear from you about your own poems, ones you've written to support you or others. And in the spirit of sharing, we'll publish some on the day itself if you'd care to send in your work.
Simply use the contact form here to send us your poems before 21 September and we'll share the best on National Poetry Day.
Not enough time for poetry writing? How about just one positive thought?
